Compromised running for HYROX
Every run in a HYROX starts with the last station still in your legs. That's compromised running, and it's half the race.

Why it matters
Your fresh 1 km pace isn't your race pace. After a sled push or 100 m of lunges your legs feel heavy for the first few hundred metres, and the only way to get used to it is to practise it.
A starter workout
- 1Warm up for 10 minutes.
- 2Do one station at about half race distance (for example 25 m of sled push, 500 m on the rower, or 50 wall balls).
- 3Go straight into a 1 km run at a steady effort.
- 4Rest 2 to 3 minutes. Repeat for 3 to 4 rounds, changing the station each time.
Notice how different that 1 km feels from a fresh one. That gap shrinks with practice.
Where it goes in a plan
Not in week 1. The Cheetah first race plans build station technique first, then add the first compromised runs in the middle weeks, and finish with full simulations. No sled? Any swap from the station swap finder works: the point is running on tired legs.
Questions
What is compromised running?
Running straight after a strength or station effort, so you start the run already tired. In HYROX every run after the first is compromised.
How often should I do compromised running?
Once a week is enough for most first-timers, building from a few rounds in the middle of the plan to a full simulation a couple of weeks before race day.
