How long does it take to train for HYROX?
For most first-timers, 12 weeks. Less if you already run and lift, more if you're starting from scratch. Here is how to tell which you are.

Pick by where you're starting
| You are… | Train for | Why |
|---|---|---|
| New to training, can't run 5 km yet | 16 weeks | Starts with run/walk intervals and technique, so your body has time to adapt. |
| Can run 3 to 5 km, some gym experience | 12 weeks | Two runs, a strength day and a station day each week, with a full simulation two weeks out. |
| A runner who rarely lifts | 8 to 16 weeks | Keeps your running and adds two strength days and a station day. |
| A lifter who doesn't run | 8 to 16 weeks | Builds running from run/walk to a long run while keeping a lifting day. Longer is kinder. |
| Already fit: runs 5 km and lifts | 8 weeks | Tempo, intervals, compromised runs and two simulations. |
| 40+ or returning after a break | 16 weeks | Three hard days, 48 hours apart, with lower run volume. |
What a plan needs to fit in
- A benchmark in week 1 so you have numbers to beat.
- Station technique at light loads before heavy work.
- Deload weeks every few weeks so the training sticks.
- Compromised running: a run straight off a station.
- A full race simulation about two weeks before race day.
- A taper in race week.
Short on weeks? A shorter plan still works if you're already fit. If your race is closer than 8 weeks, start anyway: early weeks build the running and station basics race day needs most. The start date calculator tells you exactly where you stand for your race.

Is 8 weeks enough to train for HYROX?
Yes, if you already run around 5 km comfortably and lift regularly. If you're newer to training, 12 or 16 weeks gives your legs and lungs time to adapt.
Can a beginner do HYROX?
Yes. There is no minimum fitness to enter the Open division. A 16-week plan that starts with run/walk intervals gets a complete beginner from the couch to the finish line.
How many days a week should I train for HYROX?
Most first-timer plans use 4 days a week. Three days works if they are spaced 48 hours apart and each one does double duty, like strength with stations.
